Limitations of fears and phobias in travels

We all have fears - it's only natural and so we learn to live with them because 1) not many of us want to receive 'therapy' or admit to receiving 'therapy' for such little inconveniences, 2) none of us really want to go through the desensitisation methods often heard about to get over our fears by exposing ourselves to them, and 3) we are adaptable and manage to get by, and as everyone has fears so it's normal.


But how much are you missing in your travels by having these fears? And really, what's IN IT for you to KEEP these fears?

1) A fear of heights?
What could you do if you didn't have this fear? Walk the Empire State Building, Climb the Eiffel Tower? Or try some new thrilling activities such as zip lining, mountain climbing, abseiling, bunjee jumping or even skydiving?


2) Fear of flying
What could you do if you didn't have this fear? Go to places you've never been where cars and trains can't take you, save up on paying extra that you do to take alternative transport or actually go to far away places that take much too long to get to without planes? Make the much needed trip to visit your relatives, attend your children's graduation or enjoy the much wanted holiday with your family?


3) A fear of open spaces?
What could you if you didn't have this fear? Enjoy hiking with friends and family without missing out? Visit the desert without fears of the openness? Feel safe being able to be anywhere without fear and worry?


4) A fear of crowds and large groups?
What could you do if you didn't have this fear? Enjoy the company of others when traveling in groups? Visit and see more crowded parts of the world such as Hong Kong or India? Be able to experience other cultures without going through culture shock that could make your travel experience an uncomfortable one?


5) Claustrophobia?
What could you do if you didn't have this fear? Take public transportation such as the London Tube when needed without anxiety? Be in your comfort zone when in small rooms with large groups of people? Be able to take the lift when needed in the tall skyscrapers of Asia and enjoy the panoramic views of the Macau Tower, the Taipei 101, or stand from the top of the Empire State building without missing out (or climb too many steps to imagine!)


6) A fear of being under water or diving?


What great experiences could you have if you didn't fear being under water or diving? Glimpse the creatures of the sea in their habitat? Enjoy the freedom to plunge headfirst into water? Be able to try new activities such as surfing, waterskiing or white water rafting?


7) A fear of rides and roller coasters?


What great experiences could you have if you didn't fear rollercoasters or rides? Enjoy activities with your young children? Tick off another accomplishment from your list of things to do? Feel the incredible achievement of having overcome the fear?


7) A fear of Spiders
What could you do if you didn't have a fear of spiders or had less of a fear? Be able to cup a spider in the room and get rid of it without having to kill it? Be able to wonder in the countryside areas known to have spiders? Eliminate embarrassing episodes of yelling, screaming or shouting that occur when you suddenly encounter a spider?

8) A fear of driving
What could you do if you didn't have the fear of driving? Be able to get to places quickly and easily without wasting time? Enjoy the freedom of being able to get to where you want when you want? Enjoy a safari? Drive much more cheaply with a group of people up the mountains without paying for other costs?


9) A fear of being alone
What could you do if you didn't fear being alone? Experience traveling on your own? Have the freedom of doing what you want, that comes with traveling without the needs and desires of others? Take yourself out of your comfort zone, learn and stretch your own limits?
